Neuromodulators

Wrinkles are a natural result of the aging process – but you may want to lessen their appearance. Neuromodulators are paralytic medications used to weaken muscles and help smooth wrinkles formed by repeated muscle movements. This type of injectable treatment is commonly used to treat:

  • Crow’s feet: These are fine lines near the outside corner of the eyes.
  • Forehead lines: Raising the eyebrows leads to horizontal wrinkles in the center of the forehead.
  • Eleven lines: These are the wrinkles that develop between the eyebrows. They are named as such because they often appear as two vertical lines that look like the number 11.

Neuromodulators are injected directly into the underlying muscle so that it relaxes and smoothes out the appearance of the skin. They also can be used to help shape the eyebrow, soften a gummy smile, stop the dimpling in the chin and other uses. Unlike plastic surgery, there is no downtime – you simply need to avoid strenuous activity for up to 24 hours after the procedure. The effects of these injectables can last for several months.

Fillers

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring sugar in the body that makes skin supple and hydrated. HA fillers are typically used to fill in wrinkles not corrected by neuromodulators or augment certain areas of the face. HA fillers are one of the most common types of filler treatments on the market and have a long history of safe use. While results vary by patient, the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery reports that fillers can last up to two years or longer, depending on the type of treatment.

This type of injectable treatment is a simple in-office procedure. Patients receive a topical anesthetic to numb the treatment area. Additionally, fillers often are mixed with numbing medication to reduce discomfort. Some patients have mild bruising and swelling at the injection sites, which usually goes away in a few days.

Fat Transfer (Fat Grafting)

Fat transfer, also known as fat grafting, is a procedure that harvests your body’s natural fat tissues and processes them into microdroplets. Cells are removed from areas of the body that may have excess fat, such as the belly or thighs. The microdroplets can then be injected into the face as a filler treatment.

Patients love this procedure because fat is the body’s natural filler. When fat microdroplets are injected into an area, it is semi-permanent to permanent, typically lasting longer than HA fillers. The fat-derived stem cells also can help improve skin quality and scars. Patients can choose to have this procedure completed in-office under local anesthesia, or in an operating room under general anesthesia.
