Chin Implants

The chin is often an area that is overlooked in the face. Having an appropriate chin size can help balance a face. A strong chin can give off signals of intelligence, confidence and power. On a profile view, it can extend the length of the jawline and help with transition from neck to jaw. This can be helpful or a compliment when undergoing liposuction on the neck or having a facelift. Another place where a chin implant can help balance the face is often with rhinoplasty. Having a weak chin will make a nose appear to protrude further from the face. Chin implants are permanent implants that can be placed in the office or in the operating room. Liquid chin filler can give similar results but results are temporary and require reinjection to maintain results.

What to Expect after your chin implant

  • Appropriate size and shape implant will be determined at the consult. The 3D software can help determine the best type of implant.
  • The surgery can be performed in the office or in the OR
  • Expect to have some pain as the lidocaine wears off. This usually lasts 24 hrs and then starts to improve.   You may use the prescription pain medication, Tylenol or Motrin for the pain
  • You will have swelling to the area that will worsen for 2-3 days and then start to subside. The tape to the area will help to minimize some of the early swelling.  The swelling may cause the lower lip to not move as much but as the swelling subsides the function should improve.  Cool compresses can be used to help minimize the swelling too.
  • Bruising is to be expected and can migrate downwards with gravity. Most Bruising only lasts 10-14 days
  • Sutures will be removed in the office 7 days after your procedure unless otherwise specified. You should know your follow up appointment date/time when leaving the office from your procedure
  • You will be able to feel the implant with your fingers but do not want to try and move it around.
